The Living Souls "Ninety-Nine & One" is a blended scotch whisky born out of a legendary "happy accident" at the bottling plant, where a tiny 1% fraction of three-year-old grain whisky was mistakenly spilled into a major batch of 18-year-old heavily peated Island malt. Because this error legally stripped the bottle of its single malt status and "18-year-old" age statement, it hit the market at a staggering, bargain-tier discount despite being, for all intents and purposes, a mature, pristine Ledaig. Matured for 16 years in refill bourbon casks and finished for two years in sherry wood, it completely sidesteps any young grain influence to deliver a deeply rich, texturally viscous profile. It explodes with dirty industrial peat, tar, and campfire bacon balanced against heavy sherried layers of wild berry jam, honey-glazed ham, and dark caramel, earning it an instant cult status among peat-heads as one of the ultimate value steals in recent independent bottling history.
