Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 2012 SC:01 Single Malt Scotch Whisky

This 9-year-old heavily peated single malt whisky comes from Bruichladdich’s Cask Exploration Series. The barley used is malted to 40 ppm, but instead of the traditional Islay peat, this expression employs peat sourced from Caithness, offering a softer, more barbecue-like and heather smoke character compared to the medicinal notes typical of Islay peat.

This whisky is a carefully crafted blend of three distinct parcels: 16 sherry butts, alongside first-fill and second-fill American whiskey barrels. Each parcel underwent secondary maturation in French oak Sauternes casks, which lends the whisky its “SC” designation. This re-casking imparts rich layers of sweetness and complexity, balancing the intense peat smoke with luscious fruit and oak nuances.
