Independent whisky bottlers are companies that purchase casks of spirit from distilleries to mature, curate, and bottle under their own labels rather than the distillery's. Unlike official distillery releases, which prioritise a consistent, recognisable "house style" through large-scale vatting, independent bottlers focus on the unique character of individual casks, often offering higher alcohol strengths, no chill-filtration, and experimental cask finishes. By selecting specific barrels and controlling the maturation process, they provide enthusiasts with rare expressions, access to whiskies from closed distilleries, and diverse interpretations of spirit that complement the standard offerings found in the mass market.
